According to a report by Business Insider, some researchers at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat studied the voice patterns of 630 people, out of which 111 people were found to have a cold. The vocal pattern of these people was analyzed so that it could be known about the common cold. Harmonics ie vocal rhythm were used in the study. Actually, when the frequency of a person increases, the harmonics reduce the amplitude and the vocal pattern of a person who is suffering from cold and cough remains irregular. Relying on this phenomenon, researchers tested colds in people with the help of machine learning algorithm.

During this test people were asked to count from one to 40 and then describe the weekend. Apart from this, people were also asked to recite the story ‘The North Wind and the Sun’. An accuracy of about 70% was observed in the study. The sole purpose of the study was to detect common cold in people without going to the doctor. It has also been said in the report of Business Insider that this study can be very much liked by the business owners because this technique can be used for the employees who take leave on the pretext.
